Ukrainian Village
Ukrainian Village is located on both sides of Chicago Avenue from Damen
Avenue to beyond Western Avenue. This area is an energetic ethnic enclave, a close-knit
homogeneous community where distinctions between religion, language, and nationality play
an important role.
The numerous churches are the centers of community activity, and the locals gather at
bakeries and delis found on every corner. Ukrainian Village is a beautiful area; the
streets, yards, and buildings are tended to with obvious care, gardens are immaculate, and
every balcony on the 1920’s three-flat apartments spills over with flowers. Ukrainian
Village is truly one of the most lovely neighborhoods in Chicago.
